WORLD WAR II 1LT US ARMY, 12TH REPLACEMENT CONTROL DEPOT GOLD STAR LIST William James Dooley, who was serving as a first lieutenant in the air sea rescue school in England, was killed in an airplane crash in the North Sea in November, 1944. He went into the service in January, 1942. Mrs. Hazel Dooley, his wife and several children survive him. His parents, James Ray and Martha Rebecca "Minnie" (Rahe) Dooley, also survive him.

The BLU-GOLDILEER
When the school year began in September 1935, there were 52 Freshmen, 32 Sophomores, 31 Juniors, and 25 Seniors. This information came from the Blu-Goldileer, the high school newspaper that was first published in the fall of 1935 and on alternate Thursdays following that first issue.
This newspaper presented a good picture of high school life to both the students and their parents. Often, it included articles about the local citizens, as well as, previous Laton High School graduates. It also presented an outlet for students who were interested in writing.
Eventually the name was changed to The Round-Up.

Dooley, Glen (Joe) - Deceased (2010) Glen was born in Guymond, Oklahoma on October 14, 1919, and passed away at home on May 29, 2010, at the age of 90. His family moved to California in 1922 when he was three years old, and settled in the Laton area. He attended Laguna Elementary and graduated from Laton High School in 1937. He was active in sports, FFA and became an FFA State Farmer and was student body president. After graduation he went to barber college, and later joined his brother, Bill in his shop in Hanford.
In 1945 he joined his dad in the dairy business. When his father retired, his brother Orie joined him, and they were in the dairy business together for many years. He retired in 1985, and enjoyed being a raisin inspector for Sun Maid for several years.
He had fond memories of the friends he made there. He was a member of the Laton Church of the Brethren and served as Deacon. He enjoyed listening to and singing hymns. He was a member of the Laton High School Board, Central Valley Co-op Board, Kings River Conservation Board, and was a charter member of the Laton Lions Club. He held several offices in the Lions Club - president, treasurer and membership chairman. Glen loved family gatherings and entertaining. He will be remembered as a kind-hearted, loving man and enjoyed blessing friends and family with his generosity. Glen never knew a stranger. He loved his garden and spent many hours taking care of it from his scooter. Glen loved watching sports on TV, especially the San Francisco Giants, LA Lakers and his favorite football teams San Francisco 49ers and Fresno State Bulldogs.
Glenn married Maxine Vaughn from the LHS class of 1939. They has two sons, Paul and Norman Dooley and a daughter, Terry Wilson. At the time of Glen's passing, he and Maxine had 14 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

Augie was on the Laton School Board for many years and extremely active with the Laton Lion's Club. He married Doreen in 1952 and they had three daughters, Kathy, Linda and Virginia and a son, Ron.
